Alta Alella is the closest winery to Barcelona, within the D.O. Alella, which is located on the opposite side of the city from Cava's traditional home, the Penèdes region. It is family-run and fully organically farmed.
Set in the midst of the Serralada de Marina Natural Park, a step from the Mediterranean Sea and a just few miles away from Barcelona, stands the ALTA ALELLA MIRGIN winery, the dream-come-true of the Pujol-Busquets Guilléns.
ALTA ALELLA MIRGIN Winery has a deep knowledge of its terrain. It understands every corner of its vineyards. It values every single grapevines’ roots. Only through this esteem, can the Pujol-Busquets Guillén family keep their commitment and demonstrate their love for the land.
The estate is just two kilometres away from the Mediterranean Sea and the vineyards are planted on slopes and terraces between 100 and 250m above sea level. The vines are grown on Sauló soil which is one of the most important elements that define the wines from Alta Alella: an acidic white granite-based sandy soil with low limestone content, low organic matter and good natural water drainage.
Currently, Alta Alella is listed in 9 of the 50 'Best' Michelin starred restaurants worldwide, plus 2 restaurants in the 'Best of the Best' category. This includes several of Alain Ducasse's 3-star restaurants, Heston's Blumenthal's The Fat Duck, and Marcus Wareing's group of London restaurants.
