Our Story

Caiarossa

The town of Riparbella lies just inland of the Tuscan coast, an area made famous for its gorgeous Bordeaux-style blends by producers such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia. But Caiarossa are part of a new generation of Super-Tuscans, and they’re doing things their way: carving out a distinctive style with an emphasis on biodynamic and organic practices.

Founded on a steep, iron-rich and elevated micro-block in 1998, Caiarossa cemented their reputation early when they pulled through their first vintage, the notoriously difficult heatwave year of 2003, with exceptionally well-balanced results. Since then, they have gone from strength to strength, skyrocketing to an unprecedented level of refinement for such a relatively new estate. Described by renowned critic James Suckling as one of his "go-to Super-Tuscans, because of their drinkability and complexity", Caiarossa's world-class quality has yet to correspond with the wine's price.

Now owned by the same family as classified Margaux growths Chateaux Giscours and du Tertre, Caiarossa brings together traditional Bordeaux varietals with a unique Italian terroir. Located in the hills above the famous wine-producing town of Bolgheri, Riparbella’s cooler climate and iron-rich soils make for a livelier, fresher interpretation of these varietals to thrive. The wines are handcrafted at every step of the process, by hands experienced in organic and biodynamic principles.
