“The 2013 Flower Chardonnay has a slightly restrained, yet complex nose of honeysuckle, ripe peaches, marzipan, orange peel and pink grapefruit. The palate is very taut, rich, concentrated and multi-layered and yet the wine also has wonderful freshness that lifts the very long finish.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“There’s 48 dozen produced, to be sold at cellar door. The barrel used is a ‘Biodynamic’ Loches Flowers, which means the oak was felled on a flower day. Not so lucky if you’re a tree, but a nice thought for it to have as it hit the ground after a hundred or so years of standing around. Grapes harvested on a flower day. Bottled direct from barrel. No fining. No filtration. It’s a wild one, but it’s got the fruit to ride. Smoky sulphide and cloves, almond and cashews, mixed citrus and white peach. Medium bodied, powerful and intense – lemon and grapefruit flavours – firm precise acidity gives it crunch, the sulphide roughs it up with flint, then there’s a gentle silky gloss of almond milk to bed it down. Surging length. Such length! Smoke and ashen complexity in the aftertaste, giving way to juicy grapefruit laden with exotic spice. What a ride! Superb.” – Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Tasting Note: Light straw colour, green tinges. Citrus, matchstick, dried pear and grapefruit. Rich texture and length, complex and mineral with a clean complex finish. Can be cellared with confidence for at least 15 years.
