“Another thrilling wine, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Cornelia Constanza has overflowing amounts of black raspberry and framboise-like fruits as well as flowers, spicy garrigue, and herbes de Provence aromatics. All Grenache, it’s medium to full-bodied and has silky tannins, a round, layered texture, and a heavenly finish. It reminds me slightly of the 2007 with its exuberant, sexy style. It too will shine for 15 years.” – Jeb Dunnuck

“This is a beauty with gently mulled raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors gliding along and laced with licorice, floral, garrigue and incense notes. Lovely swirl of black tea through the finish as the fruit lingers. Offers a very solid, underlying structure too. Best from 2024 through 2038.” – Wine Spectator

“My top pick among this estate’s 2019s is the all-Grenache 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Cornelia Constanza, a cuvée drawn from 100-year-old vines planted in a sandy sector of La Crau and matured in roughly equal parts tank, foudre and previously used barriques. It bursts from the glass in bold floral notes, entwined with herbal, tea-like nuances, ripe berries and licorice. Full-bodied, richly concentrated and silky in texture, it finishes with terrific length and intensity. It shows no sign of its considerable alcohol, which likely exceeds the labeled 15%. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“A very reserved Chateauneuf, in spite of, or maybe because of the impressive concentration. Put this in a big glass and a lot of plum, spice and smoke aromas emerge. Lots of bitter chocolate and some caramel on the high-structured palate. Long, very focused finish with cocoa powder and mineral notes. This was matured 35% in concrete and 65% in barrique casks for 18 months. Limited production. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.” – James Suckling

Tasting Notes: This cuvée is a tribute to the last Princess Barberini and will delight those who love the Grenache varietal, being made solely with grapes grown in a parcel of Grenache vines over a hundred years old, situated on the slopes leading up to the “La Crau” plateau, a legendary area in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Elegant and refined wine, tannic while remaining velvety. Expressive nose of gooseberry and Garrigues. Palate perfectly expressing the purity of the grape variety Grenache, on the background of cocoa, cardamom and Sichuan pepper.

Winemaking Notes: Harvesting is done by hand in 25 kg crates. After a double selection of the best grapes in the vineyard and on the sorting table, the grapes are vinified in whole bunches in a concrete tank. The macerations are very long with a minimum of intervention to keep all the aromatic purity of the grapes. This wine is age for 60% in foudre and 40% in concrete vat for 18 months. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration. 3000 bottles total production.
