Domaine de la Solitude Châteauneuf du Pape Réserve Secrète 2015

95/100 – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
93/100 – James Suckling

The top wine at Solitude is the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reserve Secrete, a 50-50 blend of Grenache and Syrah, 60% of which was matured in new oak. Virtually none of the oak is apparent on the nose, which features peppery-herbal and bright cherry notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, creamy and lush, with ripe cherries and berries that glide to a long, silky finish that turns slightly chocolaty at the very end. While approachable now, this wine should be able to go a couple of decades.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“Bacon fat and meaty youthful ferment-derived aromas lead into dark sweetly ripe plum and blackberry fruits on the palate. Ripe tannins, plenty of depth and a strong thread of espresso-laced oak. Super modern. Best from 2020.” – James Suckling

Tasting Notes: Powerful, elegant and refined wine built for the long guard. Intense nose of blackberry, blackcurrant, worn by empyreumatic notes. The dense mouth of this wine blends beautifully notes of tan, cherry cherry cedar and continues with an intense and persistent finish. 1200 bottles and 150 magnums produced.

Winemaking Notes: Harvesting is done by hand in 25 kg crates. After a double selection of the best bunches in the vineyard then on a sorting table, the grapes are vinified in all clusterfor the Grenache and the Syrahs are destemmed. The vinification takes place in concrete tank. The is carefully aged for 18 months and 60% in barrels. The barrels of exceptional qualities are made from Colbert oak from the french forest of Tronçais. The wine is blended and bottled f without filtration or fining and refined for 12 months in bottle before to be sale.

Varieties: The Grenache are from the oldest part of the Domaine de la Solitude, planted by my great-grandfather at the beginning of last century it is located on the western slope of “La Crau” on a terroir of safre.
