“A blend of eight grape varieties. Dense, ripe and almost syrupy red with Christmas cake dried fruit and nut flavours plus dark chocolate, liquorice and spice oak. High acidity and firm, ripe tannins suggest good cellaring potential – the wine is still quite youthful. A complex red.” – Bob Campbell MW

“There’s no mistaking the power and impact of the bouquet with this wine – aromas of super dark berries, velvet textured red flowers of violet and rose, plenty of toasty oak aromas and sweet brown spices. Full-bodied, rich core of flavours centering on blackberries and plums then licorice and toast, clove and dark chocolate. Tannins are ripe and in abundance adding texture, weight and complexity. Acidity is medium+-ish keeping the palate engaged and fresh as well as adding contrast to the core. Very long finish, balanced and well made. Decant for service several hours ahead. Ideal for protein rich meat dishes, cheese or just a really tasty Cuban cigar. Best drinking from toasty and through 2028+” – Cameron Douglas MS

“The 2013 vintage is also highly impressive. Matured for 16 months in new French oak barriques, it has dark, youthful colour. A lovely rich and supple red, it is muscular, with generous, ripe blackcurrant/spice flavours, showing excellent complexity, real power through the palate and obvious potential.” – Michael Cooper

Tasting Note: “100% coastal Waiheke grown blend of 8 varieties grown on the steep warm slopes of Luc ‘Luey’ Desbonnets’ The 8 Vineyard above the bright and warm tidal water of the Okahuiti Creek estuary. This wine is a tribute to my Grandmother Marthe, the 13th child of her family, and her son, my father Patrick, born 13 December, his lucky number. A unique wine that comes from only one place. A long hot dry vintage resulting in a highly concentrated and elegant expression suited to extensive cellar ageing under correct conditions. A harmonious and complex wine with great length and fine grainy tannins. Unfined and minimally filtered. Cellar 13-15 ºC. Drink 2016 – 2030+” – Winemaker’s notes
