“A blend of Grenache Tintorera and Monastrell grapes from the Almansa region of Spain. Inky, heroic red with cassis, blackcurrant, tar, liquorice, black-fleshed plum and wood-smoke flavours. For lovers of generously proportioned red wines this represents very good value. Drink: 2018 to 2027.” – Bob Campbell MW
Tasting Note: Bodegas Atalaya was founded in 2007 by the Gil Family of Jumilla. The prominent grape variety in Almansa is Garnacha Tintorera along with Monastrell. The 2017 Laya is 70% Garnacha Tintorera and 30% Monastrell planted around 1000 metres above sea level and aged for 4 months in French oak barrels. Deep red cherry in color. Elegant, fresh and complex nose that highlights ripe fruit and floral notes. Nice and fresh on the palate, well-balanced with sweet but still young tannins, a delicious mouthful sensation that lingers on the very long and smooth finish.
Varietal: Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell
Region: Almansa, Spain
