“Produced from 30-40-year-old grenache vines in the Calayud region of Spain. Situated at around 800 metres above sea level the low-cropping vines yield just five tonnes per hectare. After fermentation in small stainless steel tanks the wine spent just two months in French oak to emphasise the fruit flavour. An elegant wine with typical earth, spice, leather and dark berry flavours. Quite a stylish wine that can be enjoyed without the complication of food, but is great with rich, spicy red meat dishes.” – Bob Campbell MW
“Bright, brambly appeal on the nose with redcurrant and raspberry fruits. The palate has a plush, fleshy and saturated feel to it, with succulent tannins. Drink now.” – James Suckling
Tasting Note: The wine exhibits great aromatic complexity and richness with mineral and blueberry notes leading to a savoury and spicy palate with good balance and acidity.
Winemaking Notes: The grapes come from vines that are 30-40 years old, with yields of 2T/Ha and located high on the hillsides, 700-900 metres above sea level. The vineyards are mainly planted in decomposed slate and gravel/clay soils. The fermentation was carried out in small stainless steel tanks for 15 days at temperatures below 27 C and then spent a short period of two months in French oak barrels.
Region: Calatayud, Spain
