5 stars – Michael Cooper

“The 2014, oak-aged for two years (50 per cent new), is a powerful, almost robust red, very fragrant, savoury and concentrated, with a long future ahead; open 2021+.” – Michael Cooper

Tasting Notes: Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. The nose is alive with dark fruits (currants, black dorris) and an array of exotic spices – cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, coriander and a hint of savoury cumin. The savoury element suggests the pungent marinade for a braised lamb to which this wine is perfectly suited. The palate is youthful but deep and complex, layered with chewy fig and higher red fruits, a lick of cedar and vanilla from the oak influence, and a plump, impeccably balanced finish that carries weightlessly through with tannins that are prominent but not overpowering.
