Graffetta Syrah 2017
$35.00 inc. GST
94/100 – Bob Campbell MW
“Syrah with appealing plum, blueberry, violet and spice/pepper flavours. A core of sweet fruit sits nicely with fine, drying tannins. Approachable now but should develop well with a few more years in bottle.” – Bob Campbell MW
“Made with Syrah, this opens with aromas of mature dark fruit and cooking spice. The firm, no-frills palate offers black currant jam and black pepper alongside smooth tannins.” – Wine Enthusiast
Tasting Note: Slightly inclined halfway between Noto and Monica, the south-oriented vineyards of Contrada Graffetta belong to the municipality of Ispica (Ragusa). The vineyards face the Mediterranean, stretching out over the sea from those chalky grounds that distinguish the first spurs of the Iblei Mounts. The climate, warm, dry and with a consistent breeze, together with the maritime-mitigated temperature, turn this territory into the natural and optimal production area for Syrah, where the minerality of the soil also enhances the concentration of the fruit. Deep dark red colour; rich and complex aromas with notes of black pepper and nutmeg. On the palate, it displays a rich and varietal-bound taste.
Winemaking Notes: Macerated under controlled temperature of 28ºC for 10-12 days. Malolactic Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, and the wine was aged 50% in oak tonneaux for 6 months, 50% in steel tanks, and the final blend rested for 3 months in bottle.
Region: Ragusa, Sicily, Italy
