91/100 – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
5 stars – Michael Cooper
“Ramato-style winemaking has given the 2017 Pinot Gris a rich coppery-salmon hue. It’s even possible to smell the skin contact in the glass, with its exaggerated notes of apple skin and peppery spice. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with a definite tannic bite, but that works with the richness of the other material here, lingering like silk on the finish.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“Prepare for something different! Estate-grown on the north side of the Wairau Valley, the 2017 vintage is a thought-provoking wine, like its predecessors. Apricot-coloured, from long skin contact with the juice, it was partly oak-aged (20 per cent of the blend was handled in French oak puncheons). Ripely perfumed, it is weighty, sweet-fruited and bone-dry, with powerful peach, strawberry and apricot flavours, a touch of tannin, and loads of personality. Certified organic.” – Michael Cooper
Tasting Note: Positively not your ordinary Pinot Gris! Full-bodied, unveiling layers of concentrated pink grapefruit and ripe peach flavours- magic! A mutation of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris produces soft, lightly perfumed wine with more substance and colour than most whites. 2016 enjoyed a dry, hot Summer resulting in creamy, ripe fruit.
Winemakers Notes: Our organic winemaking allows the grapes to retain the elegant rose gold colour and intense flavours extracted from the skin and carried through to the glass. The natural secondary fermentation on the lees with regular stirring provides silkiness, complexity and depth. Unfined and only light filtration to retain the beautiful aromas. This wine is not exposed to cold stabilization and natural sediments may show.
