“The outstanding 2014 vintage was estate-grown on the north side of the Wairau Valley and matured for 18 months in French oak barriques. Dark and purple-flushed, with a fragrant bouquet of blackcurrants and spices, it is a powerful, youthful wine. Fleshy, sweet-fruited and smooth, it is packed with cassis, plum and spice flavours, with savoury notes adding complexity, and obvious potential. Best drinking 2018+. Certified organic.” – Michael Cooper

“Lovely intensity here: dense and gravelly with pure liqueur-like raspberry and cherry fruit. There’s a seamless quality to this, with smooth structyre under the amazingly direct sweet fruit. Some raspberry jam here. Truly compelling.” – Jamie Goode

“The most widely-planted grape variety in Austria. Deep-tinted, flavoursome red with plum, spice, dark berry, black berry and spicy oak flavours. This is a rich, warming red that clearly thrives in a relatively cool climate. Impressive power and length.” – Bob Campbell MW

“A tip of the cap to the Swiss Herzog family, who’ve seemingly made it a point to prove that almost any grape variety can be grown in Marlborough. The inky-hued 2014 Zweigelt reveals peppery scents of black plums and licorice on the nose. It’s medium to full-bodied and still sturdily tannic on the palate, where bright acids accentuate the tannic grip, suggesting a few more years of cellaring would be beneficial.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Tasting Note: Wonderful aromas of juicy ripe plums, black cherries, blackcurrants and Marzipan with spicy undertones. This highly complex wine demonstrates a fantastic backbone of beautifully integrated acidity and fine tannins. Well-structured and highly complex, this is a wine built to last…
