Mahana Gravity Pinot Noir 2014

93/100 – Mike Bennie, Wine Front

“Started by Shane Munn, the previous winemaker, finished by Michael Glover. About 60% of this is whole bunch with a blend of three of the top blocks. It’s a one off in style and vision, with 2015 seeing the single blocks being presented as single wines. Smoke, rich earth and twiggy scents. Ripe, punchy dark berry and macerated cherry fruit character. Washes the palate with sweet, clean earthy character, game meat, dark fruits. Chewy tannins and ripples of murky spice. Finishes warm and full. It’s a generous style, blocky, full, and many will love.” – Mike Bennie, Wine Front

Tasting Note: “The wine has a youthful dark red – purple hue. There are lots of dark fruit characters such as cherry and blackberry. Also chocolate and savoury undergrowth characters of moss, mushroom and leaf litter. There are subtle herbal elements in there too. The nose is quite powerful and rich, even decadent. The nose carries to the palate which is quite rich and dark. It has a lovely velvet texture. There is plenty of sweet fruit and abundant fine tannins. Quite a mouthful at this price point.” – Winemaker’s notes
