Pyramid Valley Smokin Angel 2017 Magnum
$85.00 inc. GST
This limited release comes with a free bespoke gift box with artwork designed by Claudia Weersing.
A difficult 2017 growing season resulted in the best Pinot Noir fruit from Pyramid Valley’s world-renowned, tiny Earth Smoke and Angel Flower plots being fermented as a Rosé, while no reds were produced this year. Production levels were as low as usual, so the Smokin’ Angel is only available as a small number of limited-release 1.5L magnums. The label artwork was designed by Pyramid Valley founder Claudia Weersing, a piece entitled Astral meets Terrestrial – an abstract depiction of the Astral element (Angel Flower) in harmony with the Terrestrial element (Earth Smoke) and an extension of the Pyramid Valley philosophy of all natural elements being in harmony.
Tasting Note: Red fruits on the nose are matched by wild flowers and a savoury, earthy component, along with a suggestion of the minerality of the limestone deposits that make Pyramid Valley’s Waikari Valley Home Block a very special piece of wine growing land. The palate shows strawberries characteristic of Pinot Noir Rosé, but with more of a brambly, wild aspect. The fruit is taken to the next level by a weighty, silky texture and a suggestion of wet earth/moss. The lengthy finish leads to a flash of rose petal as the sendoff.
