“Immediately complex and very intensely aromatic. The intensity of complex savoury, floral, violet aromas with spicy oak is ramped up to maximum. The palate has a breadth, depth, and an expansive finish with concentrated, really quite ripe and voluptuous fruit, complex spice with cardamom and cocoa; firm late tannins with dollops of sweet, dusty oak. A touch warm on the end. Impressive concentration and length, but it is drying and structured. A big-shouldered, firm oaky style that needs time, but will always be on the big side. “The 2021 Block B Pinot Noir is leafy and spiced on the nose, with black cherries, star anise, shaved fennel (and fennel seeds), crushed black peppercorns, green tobacco and bay leaf. Tasting Note: Dark cherries and baked plums are unfolding from the glass, transitioning into wild thyme and violets with impressions of cassis, sandalwood, and cinnamon. A complex wine with a firm tannin structure, yet smooth mouthfeel. The supporting role of oak intensifies the underlying dark cacao and spicy characters. Cellar 8 to 15 years.
Winemaking Notes: Block B is a selection of the Dijon Pinot Noir clones; specifically the clones 115, 667, 777, 114 and 113. Hand-picked and careful selection of grapes. 100% de-stemmed, cold-maceration and fermentation in stainless steel vats and left on skins for 3 weeks. Aged in 45% new and 55% used French oak barriques for 18 months.
