“A strongly leafy nose with cabernet herbs and red berries really taking the lead. Currants, iodine and dark chocolate here, too, giving plenty of aromatic depth. The palate has a very assertive tannin core that carries considerable ripe-blackcurrant flavors with dark chocolate and cedary oak spice carrying long. Great concentration here. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot, malbec, merlot and cabernet franc. Drink in 2022.” – James Suckling
“The 2015 vintage is a classic young claret-style red, dense but not tough, with power through the palate and obvious potential. Dark and purple-flushed, it is sturdy, rich and supple, with very ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, showing lovely freshness, harmony and length. Needing five years to unfold, it should mature gracefully for decades.” – Michael Cooper
“Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernets Larose exudes ripe red and black currants on the nose with a lovely floral undercurrent of violets and lavender plus earth and cedar hints. Medium-bodied and firmly structured with ripe, grainy tannins and lively acid, it gives a great intensity of red and black fruits flavors, leading to a very long, earthy finish.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Tasting Note: Dense deep purple, with the colour running all the way to the rim of the glass, vibrant and with brilliant clarity. The nose shows great depth and complexity of black berry fruits well integrated cedary oak and dried Mediterranean dried herbs, plush and inviting. Strapping in structure, with rugged, bristling tannin at this early stage of the evolution, the sweetness from the higher alcohol helping with the balance and volume on the palate.
Vineyard Notes: Stonyridge Vineyard was conceived and operated with the sole intention of making world-class Bordeaux-style red wine. This classic Cabernet-dominant blend is named Larose as a tribute to the rose, the most aromatic, colourful, intense, and beautiful of all flowers. The vineyard site was chosen specifically to produce this style of wine. The gentle north-facing slopes of the vineyard are sheltered from the cold southwesterly winds by the ridge which gives the vineyard its name. Summer temperatures regularly reach over 30°C with the highest temperature being 36°C. Combined with north-facing rows and excellent viticulture, the grapes achieve perfect ripeness in normal years.
