“A beautifully realised pinot that has swirling fragrance and bright, sappy, red-cherry fruit aromas, with lovely purity and aromatic depth. Plenty of wild herbs, too. The palate has compact, fine tannins that hold boysenberry and red-cherry fruit flavor neatly through to an expansive, breathy finish.” – James Suckling

“The 2011, matured in French oak barriques (34 per cent new), was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Invitingly scented and deeply coloured, with beautifully concentrated, vibrant plum/spice flavours, it is rich, savoury and finely textured, and should offer excellent drinking for several years.” – Michael Cooper

“Winemaker Grant Taylor’s considerable experience with Gibbston Pinot Noir shows on this beautifully sculpted wine. It’s a mix of red cherry, floral and savoury/herb flavours with a smooth texture and perfect balance of fruit sweetness with fine tannins. A supple, elegant Pinot Noir with energy.” – Bob Campbell MW

Tasting Note: “2011 in Otago didn’t have the strongest reputation because of warm northwest rains just before harvest. But coming from the northwest, they may have affected much of the Cromwell basin but not Gibbston, as the Pisa Range sheltered us. So in 2011, Gibbston was our star. It is very much a classic Gibbston Pinot just starting to show the benefits of ageing. It is all spices and florals, acidity, length and elegance, with more old world characters than new especially enhanced by the years in bottle.” – Grant Taylor
