93/100 – James Suckling
19.0/20 – Raymond Chan
5 stars – Michael Cooper

“A redder-fruited style with cool raspberries and light, wild red cherries. Abundant perfume of red flowers on offer, too. This has a vibrant and juicy palate that delivers a succulent, taut and crisp feel. Drink now. Screw cap.” – James Suckling

“The flavours are mouthfilling and underlined by fine, grainy tannin extraction and structure providing plenty of body, texture and grip. The acidity is fresh and lending energy to the wine, which shows completeness as it carries to a full finish. This is a rich and fulsome, complete and balanced Pinot Noir with dark-red berry fruit entwined with dark herbs and complexing whole bunch notes on a well-structured, fresh palate.” – Raymond Chan

“The very youthful 2017 vintage was matured in French oak casks (32 per cent new) and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Deeply coloured, with a fragrant, spicy bouquet, it is full-bodied, with highly concentrated cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing good complexity. Best drinking 2021+.” – Michael Cooper

Tasting Note: Deep garnet hue with a fascinating array of aromas from mineral and floral to earthy/animal and baking spice/wild thyme. The fruit shines through on the palate with bright cherry, blackberry and mulberry complimented by a rich earthy vein. The savoury characteristics from a cool and exceptionally low cropping vintage are sensational when married with the classic Gibbston silky, fine tannins and electric acidity. Perhaps our most intriguing Pinot to date from this vineyard with vine age playing an important role in capturing a special vintage. This punchy young wine gives immediate gratification but it has all the hallmarks of a wine that is very worthy of cellaring and will show even more exciting features for many years to come.
