Hans Herzog Viognier 2022

$69.00 inc. GST

Accolades:
94/100 – James Suckling

Tasting Notes:
A powerful yet refined expression of Viognier. Fragrant aromas of apricot, white peach and tropical blossom lift from the glass, joined by hints of quince, honeysuckle and subtle herbal notes. The palate is generous and textured, showing ripe stone fruit and exotic flavours framed by bright acidity and mineral freshness. Full-bodied yet energetic, with a long, elegant finish that encourages another sip.

Winemaking Notes:
Viognier requires precise timing in the vineyard to achieve full aromatic expression while maintaining freshness. The fruit was grown on warm sandy soils moderated by cool Marlborough nights, allowing slow, even ripening during the warm 2022 season. After harvest the grapes were destemmed and partially crushed, with extended skin contact to enhance aromatics and texture. Fermentation took place naturally with wild yeasts in 500L French oak puncheons, followed by ageing on fine lees with regular stirring to build complexity and mouthfeel. The wine matured for around 20 months in oak before bottling, unfined and only lightly filtered to retain purity and character.
