94/100 – Decanter
90/100 – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (2020 vintage)
“Fresh and ripe lime aromas, with a touch of nectarine. This has real precision, with added focus coming from the zesty acidity. Only medium-bodied, it’s certainly not gloopy, fat or overly alcoholic. Cedar oak spicing from the use of 30% new barriques (the rest spends time in steel and foudres), which brings welcome spice that’s all well integrated. Good length. The whites from Domaine de la Solitude are extremely good in 2021.” – Matt Walls, Decanter
Tasting Notes: 40% Roussanne, 30% Clairette, 20% Grenache Blanc, 10% Picpoul, Bourboulenc. Complex nose of tropical fruit and brioche. The palate combines vivacity and smoothness with notes of citrus, tropical fruit and flowers with a very mineral finish. Pair with truffle brouillade, grilled fish with sauce, fish tagine, oysters au gratin, lobster, capon with cream and vin jaune, carpaccio of marinated fish.
Winemaking: Harvesting is done by hand in 25 kg crates. The grapes are pressed after a short maceration period. The fermentation and élevage are done in barriques for the Roussanne, and the Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc are vinified in cuves. Malo-lactic fermentation is performed on the Roussanne. This year, 10% of the blend was co-fermented with a long maceration, meaning that the white grapes were vinified with the red grapes. The blend was matured 50% in oak, on fine lees, for 10 months.
Variety: Roussanne blend
Region: Chateauneuf-de-pape AOC, France
