“While all of Milan’s other wines are fermented in stainless steel, the NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grande Réserve 1864 is fermented and matured in used oak barrels using methods learned by Jean Milan, who worked for Krug in the 19th century. Opening in the glass with a complex bouquet of walnuts, mandarin, yellow apple and chalky soil tones, it’s medium to full-bodied, vinous and nicely concentrated, with lively balancing acids and a nutty, chalky finish. This cuvée does indeed nod to yesteryear Krug, and for readers that appreciate the style—this writer among them—it represents a terrific value.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Tasting Note: “An old style Champagne stoppered in the traditional way. This classically traditional Champagne is composed of barrel fermented Chardonnay wines. Extended ageing on lees has allowed the wine to develop deep and rich flavours covering the spectrum of almond, vanilla and toasted nuts to attain incomparable complexity. In keeping with tradition each bottles is hand finished in the manner of a bygone era. A rare, rustic and elegant Champagne. 100% Oger Chardonnay – Blanc de Blancs – Grand Cru Selection 2013 – dry – residual sugar 6g/l” – Winemaker’s Notes
