“Very perfumed and intense ripe fruit with a concentrated but also slightly raisined edge. The red and black berries are accompanied by dried porcini, wood-smoke, pepper and sweet black dates. More brooding and reticent on the palate despite the evident concentration, held within a shell of bittersweet chocolate tannins, taut acidity and restrained earthiness. The finish shows austerity and this needs time to resolve in bottle before it reveals its charms.” – Stephen Wong MW
“Lots of ripe fruit, with aromas of strawberries, cherries, fresh flowers and a hint of sandalwood. Full-bodied with velvety tannins and a creamy texture that give length and opulence. A luxurious wine. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling
Tasting Note: Fresh and aromatic, the nose opens with lifted notes of cherries and strawberries, supported by underlying herbal nuances of sage. Subtle oak lends gentle spice and structure without overpowering the fruit. The palate is dominated by juicy red berry flavours—strawberry, cherry, and a touch of cranberry, marked by vibrant acidity, which brings freshness and energy, balancing the ripe fruit and enhancing its youthful character. The finish is smooth and lingering, with red fruit and a touch of herbaceous spice, framed by soft tannins and a faint echo of oak.
Winemaking Notes: Cool, damp weather during flowering significantly reduced the yields. Conditions over the second half of the growing season were near to perfect, which delivered fantastic fruit into the winery. Marion’s Vineyard is a clonal selection of Pommard 10/5 and Abel. Hand-picked and carefully selected grapes, 100% de-stemmed, cold-macerated, fermented in stainless steel vats and left on skins for three weeks. Aged in 35% new and 65% used French oak barriques for 15 months.
