Tasting Note: Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Carménère. Petit Verdot was first introduced into New zealand in 1985 by Stephen White and Dr Tony Molloy QC. Fortiuitously, it has become one of the great varities in our vineyard at Stonyridge, with the small berry size and thick skins giving structure and intensity in every vintage. The wines produced from these grapes are known for their intensity, florality and earthiness along with a tight tannin structure and masses of dark fruit in the mid-palate. Coeur de Lion was born from this serendipity and is so called in honour of Morris our beloved vineyard cat with the heart of a lion who passed awy in 2017. he was as strong and characterful as the wine named after him. The name also respects the vinyeard’s ability to grow the greatest wine in the most challenging of vintages.
