“The 2021 vintage was hand-harvested and matured for 11 months in in French oak barriques (29 per cent new). Ruby hued, with a complex bouquet, it is a graceful red, with vibrant cherry, plum and spice flavours, finely integrated oak, fresh acidity and supple tannins. Still very youthful, it’s well worth cellaring to mid-2024+.” – Michael Cooper

“More typically Otago than the regular barometer here. Cloves, mandarin peel, cinnamon stick oak, bergamot and red cherries. There is ample juice, sap and crunch. I can sense the bunchy element, yet it is impeccably integrated; a soprano to the baritone of fruit, conferring lift and freshness. This tames Otago’s proclivity for weight and density, compressing it into a chord of welcome savoriness. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling

“Light, smooth-textured wine with strawberry, cherry, raspberry, vanilla and spicy oak flavours. The pale colour is deceptive as the wine has considerable power clearly demonstrated in its surprisingly lengthy finish.” – Bob Campbell MW

Tasting Note: “A unique, “matt” garnet hue with aromas of wild strawberry, cassis, and mulberry laced with maple, cedar and wild thyme. The intriguing bouquet is followed on the palate with garrigue spice, cardamom, strawberry, tart cherry, and mushroom. The wine is concentrated yet bright with fine tannins and incredible persistence, finishing with distinctive salinity. Intense fragrance, unique savoury undertones, and electric energy = classic Waitaki Pinot Noir and 2021 has it in spades. Captivating at release, this wine will continue to develop for at least a decade.” – Jen Parr
