“Luscious fruit defines this 2020 King’s Wood Shiraz, but it morphs through the middle palate with shades of meat, red licorice, dark chocolate and mulberry—it’s very sweet in character. There is blackberry, raspberry and licorice on the nose, however on day two it feels much softer and lighter, with deli meat, star anise, clove bud, green tea and layers of red apple, eucalypt and crushed granite. Kind of a loose, sandy disposition. Really impressive. Dappled and beautiful.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“A bright, deep ruby-red in the glass. Blueberry, dried herbs and violet aromatics. Just shy of full-bodied, with bright blueberry fruit, nori and saline-mineral notes, layered with great complexity across the tongue. The tannins are fine and firm and there’s a lick of brightening acidity that drives and lifts it to a very long and bright finish. A wine that will offer great rewards for years to come.” – Stuart Knox, The Real Review

“A juicy and savory red with white pepper, dried meat and dark fruits. Fresh and vivid. Medium to full body. Tensioned, tight and fresh finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling

“Transparent crimson. Mmm! [This is my favourite tasting note, by the way.] Very appealing nose that suggests northern Rhône Syrah with a really superior spine and line, great purity and a little saline touch at the end. Still with a little dry tannin on the end. This wine should run and run. Very fresh without being at all lean. So clean and healthy-tasting. Long. Drink 2024-2034.” – Jancis Robinson

Tasting Note: Royal Oaks of the King’s Wood were forests planted by monarchs to build elegant cathedrals and church naves. The beautiful old French oak in our foudre vessels helps us make elegant wine by gradually polishing and protecting the brightest, spiciest south facing Shiraz we grow at Yangarra. Powerful, elegant and aromatic. Brambly red and blueberry fruit, winter spices, liquorice, black cherry. Balanced textural palate.

Winemaking Notes: Sourced exclusively from Block 12 (2.3 Ha) which sits on a south-east facing, ironstone sandy outcrop. Hand-picked on the 26th March, 20% whole bunches, 30% whole berries mechanically sorted, 50% crushed in open fermenters and on skins for 20 days. A gentle maceration principle of wetting the cap and only draining and returning when reductive. Wild yeast ferment. No pressings are used in this wine. Exclusively matured in 25 hL French Oak foudres, 50% new and 50% one and two-year-old, for 16 months.
