Chene Bleu Astralabe 2018 magnum
$150.00 inc. GST
Astralabe was the love-child of medieval French scholars Abelard and Heloise, who grew up in the abbey with his mother, after she had become a nun, and never met his father. As the male “child” of the family, Astralabe shares his father’s blend of Grenache-predominance.
Accolades:
93/100 – Bob Campbell MW
“Silken-textured red that is more vinous than fruity with restrained spice, oak, violet and cherry flavours. The focus is on texture rather than taste although I expect the wine to develop growing complexity with bottle age. Distinctive, stylish red. Drink 2022 to 2030.” – Bob Campbell MW
Tasting Note: Assemblage of old-vine Grenache noir, over 60 years old, and other younger Grenache vines, north-west facing at 530m. Syrah over 30 years old, south-west facing at 540m. Deep, intense garnet colour with hints of mahogany. Rich and complex on the nose with notes of ripe dark fruits, spice and mocha. Smooth and fruity with velvety tannins. Finishes long and aromatic. Ageing potential: 8-10 years.
