“Made from 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, the 2013 Diana Madeline is deep garnet-purple and shows meaty, Bovril and beef drippings notes on the nose, over core of ripe blackcurrant, plus toast, dried herb and red fruit inflections. Muscular, very tight and concentrated, this wine is medium-bodied, very fine and possessing ripe tannins. It has a long mineral finish.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc. Mid crimson with real shading. Pure, fragrant, unforced. Beautiful balance. Like a gentle kiss on the palate. Bone dry. Nothing added. Pure and unadorned. Purer than your average red bordeaux! Lovely lift.” – Jancis Robinson
“I wouldn’t say that it whispers but it certainly doesn’t scream its quality. The result is that it’s pretty easy to take. Velvety blackcurrant, croons of creamy oak, straps of dry licorice, peppercorn and dusty gravelly notes. Tannin is seamless but certain. The kind of balance that comes when strength runs deep through the core.” – Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front
“A beautiful wine that responds well to aeration. The elegant palate fills out with fruit sweetness. It shows enormous cellaring potential.” – Huon Hooke
Tasting Note: Deep crimson hues with magenta edges. Displays complexity and vitality with layers of well ripened dark fruits highlighted by nuances of blackcurrants, plums and mulberries. Athletic structure and fruit driven, the palate presents blackcurrant and mulberry fruits finishing with fine grained tannins. Subtle layers of complexity arise from fruit harvested at the pinnacle of ripeness. Cellar 30 plus years.
