Gil Family Estates BlueGray Priorat 2019

$59.90 inc. GST

Accolades:
93/100 – James Suckling (2015 vintage)

Tasting Note: 40% Garnacha, 30% Carignan, 20% Syrah, 10% Merlot matured 6 months in new French oak. The vineyard is planted on elevated terraces of blue shale and quartz soils known as llicorella. Very inhospitable location between pine and olive trees. Everything here has to be done by hand and the vines have very low yields. Hand-picked and fermented separately in small barrels for 10 days at temperatures below 28oC and then aged separately in French oak barrels for 6 months and finally blended in the desired proportion. The Juan Gil Bluegray is dark ruby red and very much alive with aromas of blackberries and cherries and delicate notes of nutmeg and star anise on the nose. The wine is very elegant with well integrated tannins with dried Mediterranean herbs such as thyme with a lingering finish. This is a delicious wine with an excellent price / quality for which the Juan Gil wines are known. This is a delicious wine with grilled and roasted red meat, game, cured meats, aged cheeses, rice and pasta with flavored sauces, savory winter dishes.
