“The top cuvee is the 2016 Châteauneuf du Pape Réserve Secrete, a deep, rich, massive wine that stays balanced, pure and elegant. Crème de cassis, pepper, crushed violets, and new saddle leather notes all give way to a rockingly textured, full-bodied, balanced beaty that’s going to keep for 20+ years. I wasn’t able to get the final blend, which changes every year for this cuvee, but it’s almost always a mix of Grenache and Syrah.” – Jeb Dunnuck
“The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reserve Secrete features hints of cedar, vanilla and mocha layered over cola, plums and red berries. Full-bodied, plush and creamy textured, it’s an unabashedly modern wine that can be drunk on release and over the next two decades. It’s one of the best Domaine de la Solitude wines I can recall tasting. Drink 2018 to 2035.“ – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“This perfumed gobsmacker offers all the unctuous, sun-drenched strawberry and cherry exuberance of Grenache juxtaposed by the smoky, spicy nuances of Syrah. It’s a bold, fleshy wine but elegantly balanced too, lifted by a spray of red-currant acidity and fine, velveteen tannins. The finish offers a lingering note of burnt caramel. A stunner already the wine should improve through 2030 and hold further still.” – Wine Enthusiast
Tasting Notes: Powerful, elegant and refined wine designed for long ageing. The nose shows intense blackberry and blackcurrant, carried by earthy notes. The palate is dense with notes of tobacco, cedar and cherries, leading to an intense and lengthy finish.
Winemaking Notes: Harvesting is done by hand in 25 kg crates. After a double selection of the best bunches in the vineyard then on a sorting table, the grapes are vinified in all clusterfor the Grenache and the Syrahs are destemmed. The vinification takes place in concrete tank. The is carefully aged for 18 months and 60% in barrels. The barrels of exceptional qualities are made from Colbert oak from the french forest of Tronçais. The wine is blended and bottled f without filtration or fining and refined for 12 months in bottle before to be sale.
Varieties: The Grenache are from the oldest part of the Domaine de la Solitude, planted by my great-grandfather at the beginning of last century it is located on the western slope of “La Crau” on a terroir of safre. The Syrahs flourish on the fresh soil of Safre des “Blachieres”. 60% centennial black Grenache, 40% Syrah These two great Terroirs are always vinified separately but only the great years, 5 vintages of the last 10 Secret Reserve is created.
