“Volume of the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc was cut in half by hail, but what has made its way into the bottle is excellent. An assemblage of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne, with smaller portions of Bourboulenc and Picpoul, it’s a plump, fleshy effort, medium to full-bodied, with bold flavors of pineapple and citrus and a long, seductively textured finish.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“Pronounced aroma of kumquats, orange blossoms and fresh almonds. Bright and aromatic on the medium- to full-bodied palate, with a liveliness that makes you think this has plenty of acidity, but the saltiness is what makes this feel so fresh. Long moderately dry finish A cuvee of 30% grenache blanc, 29% clairette, 25% roussanne, 15% bourboulenc and 1% picpoul, all biodynamically grown grapes. Vinified 70% in foudres and 30% barriques. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling
“Intense and shapely, showing plenty of pear and floral notes. Full-bodied, regal and impressive, with a generous mouthfeel and a long finish. A lot of wine for the money, in an oaked style, but not excessively so. Matured 30% in concrete tank, 30% foudres and 40% barriques for 10 months.” – Matt Walls, Decanter
Tasting Notes: 30% Grenache Blanc, 29% Clairette, 25% Roussanne, 15% Bourboulenc, 1% Picpoul. Complex nose of pineapple, peach and brioche. Mouth combines liveliness and smoothness with notes of citrus, candied melons and flowers and a very mineral finish. Food pairing: Eggs with truffles, grilled fish or fish in sauce, fish tagine, oysters au gratin, lobster, capon with cream and yellow wine, ceviche.
Winemaking: The harvest is done by hand early in the morning in 25 kg crates. The grapes are pressed after short skin maceration. Fermentation and aging are done in barrels for Roussanne, and Grenache Blanc. Clairette, Bouboulenc and Picpoul are co-fermented in vats. The malolactic fermentation is carried out on the Roussanne. This year 10% of the blend is vinified by long maceration, which means that those white grapes were vinified like red grapes. This wine is aged for 35% in oak barrels, 30% in foudres, 30% in concrete vats, and 5% in new oak barrels, on lees, for 10 months
