“Medium-bodied red with a core of sweet fruit balanced by fine tannins and flavours that suggest cassis, Christmas cake, vanilla, coconut and cherry/berry fruits. Accessible now but with good aging potential.” – Bob Campbell MW

“Black berries, blueberries, and fresh flowers such as violets on the nose. Orange peel. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are polished and poised. So beautiful now but will be even better in a few years. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling

“The 2019 Dunleavy The Strip Single Vineyard Cabernet Merlot leads with raspberry compote and asphalt, tobacco, bay leaf and charry oak on the nose. In the mouth, the wine is creamy and plush, with inky fruit and lush tannins. The fruit, while firmly on the red end of the spectrum, has little inflections of green laced throughout, making for a refreshing offset to the luscious fruit profile. The tannins close a little restrictively the finish, but it’s otherwise a lovely wine.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Tasting Note: Bordering the old Waiheke Air Strip this vineyard produces world-class Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot. Planted when their children were barely walking, John and Paul Dunleavy’s vines have matured over two decades and, like their children, bring their own unique character to this wine. Aged in barrels for 10 months, but made in a forward, fruit driven style to be enjoyed in youth, The Strip will continue to improve over time with careful cellaring.
