Gil Family Estates Atalaya Laya 2020

$25.90 inc. GST

Accolades:
94/100 – Bob Campbell MW

“Deep, inky red that reminds me a bit of a big Argentinean malbec. It is, in fact, a blend of Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) and Monastrell (Mourvèdre). It’s a weighty wine with a solid core of dense, sweet fruits and flavours that suggest cassis, black plum, black berry, wood smoke and five-spice. Great value at this price. Drink 2022 to 2030.” – Bob Campbell MW

Tasting Note: Bodegas Atalaya was founded in 2007 by the Gil Family of Jumilla. The prominent grape variety in Almansa is Garnacha Tintorera along with Monastrell. The 2020 Laya is 70% Garnacha Tintorera and 30% Monastrell planted around 1000 metres above sea level and aged for 4 months in French oak barrels. Deep red cherry in color. Elegant, fresh and complex nose that highlights ripe fruit and floral notes. Nice and fresh on the palate, well-balanced with sweet but still young tannins, a delicious mouthful sensation that lingers on the very long and smooth finish.

Alcohol: 14.5%
