“A 50/50% mix of upper and lower Yarra estate and grower fruit. 30% whole bunches. A very bright crimson purple. Pretty and complex with aromas of red cherry skins and rhubarb together with some pink peppercorn spice and a light savoury edge. More approachable than the ’23. As a young wine, the medium-bodied palate is spicy, silky and long. It’ll probably age well but it’s so good to drink now that there’s no need to bother!” – Phillip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
“The 2024 Pinot Noir is bright and fresh—I can smell the cherries and strawberries without lifting the glass. Perfumed and delicious, it also has rose petals, orange zest, scraped vanilla pod and pomegranate. In the mouth, the wine feels easy, effortless, silky and fresh, with a gently drying, chalky tannin finish. It’s an exemplary wine for the money.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“Perfumed and lifted, with red-fruited aromas of red cherries, rose hips, ferric earth, red licorice and ruby grapefruit. The palate is plush and mid-weighted, with finely tuned tannins and bright acidity, finishing lush, floral and pretty. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling
Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2024 brings together fruit from across the region, with half sourced from the Upper Yarra. Red fruit and savoury spice are joined by earthy notes and a touch of cocoa, while bright acidity gives the wine freshness and definition.
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked fruit is vinified in separate whole-bunch and whole-berry parcels before eight months in French oak, with 10% new barrels. The blend offers a regional view of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, with fruit, texture and gentle oak working together.
The producer’s 2024 technical sheet describes a compressed harvest after a cool spring and warm February. Whole-bunch parcels ferment warm for 14 days, while destemmed parcels receive a three-day cold soak before natural fermentation. Gravity assists gentle extraction and transfer to barrel, where malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
