“Mouth-filling, finely weaved dusty tannins framed the concentrated fruit and violet, layering with spice and tobacco nuances. Amiable and effortless, carrying to a lengthy closing.” – Candice Chow
“Aromatic balsamic notes with a juicy raspberry and blackberry core wrapped in dusty oak notes of pencil shavings. There is generosity and accessibility here despite the evident fruit depth and some intriguing floral, spice nuances expressed in late notes of seed spice, dates, black olive and hints of leather on the back-palate. Juicy acidity helps to balance the nutty oak and barrel-ageing but the wood flavour and tannins are dominating at present. This will continue to come together in bottle over the mid-term but will likely retain an oak bias. Best enjoyed in the near- to mid-term with some rich proteins to counter the tannins.” – Stephen Wong MW
“A beautifully crafted red with blackcurrant, chocolate and violet aromas and flavors with very fine tannins and just a hint of sandalwood to the fruit at the finish. Medium-bodied with well-integrated tannins. A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Drink after 2026, but already gorgeous.“ – James Suckling
Tasting Note: Named for the head of Te Motu’s founding family, Terry Dunleavy, Kokoro means ‘the patriarch’ in Maori and ‘the heart of things’ in Japanese. A Merlot dominant blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Syrah, hand-harvested from low-yielding vines, Kokoro is made in a more forward style to accentuate fruit ripeness and texture, this wine can be enjoyed in its youth but has the pedigree to improve for years to come. Kokoro is released 20 months after vintage.
